Version 1.2 • Last updated: 13 September 2026 • Jurisdiction: England and Wales
This licence covers the free myUSBdrive software that runs on your own Raspberry Pi. You accept it when you first set the software up. The paid myUSB.cloud remote access service is covered separately by our Terms and Conditions, and your privacy by our Privacy Policy.
This End User Licence Agreement ("Agreement") is a legal agreement between you ("User", "you") and Linkive Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17416528, whose registered office is at The Business and Technology Centre, Bessemer Drive, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, SG1 2DX ("we", "us", "our"), for the use of the myUSBdrive software ("Software").
If you are a consumer, nothing in this Agreement affects your statutory rights, which cannot be excluded or limited by law.
By installing, configuring, or using the Software, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Agreement. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Software.
1. What this software is
myUSBdrive is a self-hosted web application that runs on a Raspberry Pi in your home or premises. It lets you store, browse, stream and share the files on USB drives connected to your Raspberry Pi with other devices on your local private network.
Access through the Software's web interface is protected by a password that you set. On your local network you can browse, stream, download and upload your files through it; remote access adds the further protections described in section 4.
The Software also includes built-in support for optional secure remote access through our managed service at myusb.cloud (subject to a separate subscription and its own Terms of Service). This connection is preconfigured for you and uses an encrypted Cloudflare tunnel: your Raspberry Pi makes an outgoing connection only, no ports are opened on your router, your home network is never exposed to inbound internet traffic, and access is protected by two-factor authentication. This is the supported and recommended way to reach your files away from home.
2. Licence grant
Subject to your compliance with this Agreement, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to:
- Install and run the Software on Raspberry Pi devices that you own or control
- Use the Software for your own purposes, whether personal or in the course of your own household, business, club, charity or other organisation
- Make a reasonable number of backup copies for archival purposes
This licence does not permit you to offer the Software itself to others as a product or service. In particular, you must not sell, rent, lease, sublicense or redistribute the Software, or operate it as a hosted service for third parties, without our prior written consent.
3. Restrictions
You must not:
- Sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or redistribute the Software, or provide it to third parties as a hosted or managed service
- Modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent permitted by applicable law
- Remove or alter proprietary notices or markings
- Use the Software in any way that violates applicable laws
4. Remote access
The supported method of remote access is our managed myusb.cloud service described in section 1. It exists so that reaching your files from outside your home does not require you to open ports, expose your network, or become a security expert.
When you connect through the myusb.cloud service, you sign in with your password, and downloading or uploading your files additionally requires two-factor authentication, so that a stolen password alone cannot reach your files from outside your home. Some management actions (such as deleting folders) are not available remotely at all. These protections apply only to the myusb.cloud connection.
We do not support remote access that you configure yourself, and we do not recommend it.
The myusb.cloud service is the only remote access we have designed and tested. Reaching your files by any other route, such as port forwarding, FTP, a reverse proxy, dynamic DNS, or giving the Raspberry Pi a public address, removes the protections described above: downloads and uploads no longer require two-factor authentication, destructive actions are no longer blocked, and your files may be reachable with the account password alone. Opening a port on your router could expose your home network to inbound traffic from the internet, not only the drive.
It is your hardware and your network, so the decision is yours. If you make it, the arrangement is unsupported, you use it entirely at your own risk, and we accept no liability for any damage, loss, breach or incident arising from it.
5. Ownership of software
All intellectual property rights in the Software remain our property or that of our licensors. No rights are granted to you other than those expressly set out in this Agreement.
Open-source and third-party components. The Software includes components produced by other people and supplied under their own open-source licences. Those licences govern those components, and where anything in this Agreement conflicts with them, their terms take precedence for that component. Those components are provided under their own licences without warranty from us, and we accept no liability for claims arising from them. Nothing in this Agreement restricts any right you have under an open-source licence, including any right to obtain the source code of a component where its licence gives you one. A current list of the components we include, with the licence each is supplied under, is published at myusb.cloud/why-free.
6. Ownership of hardware and data
You are solely responsible for all hardware used with the Software, including Raspberry Pi devices, SD cards, and USB storage devices. You choose, purchase, configure, and maintain this hardware independently. We have no control over and accept no responsibility for it.
You are solely responsible for all data stored on or accessed through the Software. The Software runs on your own hardware, and your files are not stored on, processed by, or transmitted to our systems.
All hardware will eventually fail, and failure can occur at any time without warning. The Software's drive mirroring feature can help, but no single copy of your data is a backup. You must maintain adequate independent backups of all important data. We strongly recommend following the 3-2-1 backup rule: three copies, on two different types of storage, with one kept somewhere else.
We accept no responsibility or liability for any loss of data, howsoever caused.
7. Security
The Software protects access to your files in the following ways:
- access through the web interface is protected by a password that you set; and
- when accessed remotely through the managed myusb.cloud service, downloading or uploading your files requires two-factor authentication, and certain destructive actions (such as deleting folders) are not available (as explained in section 4).
You are responsible for setting and maintaining a strong, unique password, securing your local network environment, keeping your Raspberry Pi operating system and firmware updated, and applying Software updates where available.
We make no warranty that the Software is free from vulnerabilities. If you believe you have found a security vulnerability, please report it to security@myusb.cloud.
8. Support and feedback
The Software is provided free of charge for use at home, and the limitations of liability in this Agreement reflect that.
We genuinely care about the people who use myUSBdrive. We read every bug report and feature request, and you can reach us at support@myusb.cloud or through the problem report tool built into the Software's help page. However, because the Software is free, we cannot promise response times, guaranteed fixes, ongoing development, or future compatibility, and nothing in this section creates a contractual support obligation.
9. Privacy
The Software itself does not send us your files or their contents. Where the Software looks up film posters or album artwork online, only short search queries built from file and folder names are sent to the relevant metadata services, as described in the product documentation.
If you create an account or subscribe to the myusb.cloud service, the personal data involved (such as your email address and subscription details) is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy, and the service itself is governed by the myUSB.cloud Terms and Conditions.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, security, and availability or reliability.
Nothing in this Agreement affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
11. Limitation of liability
Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
Subject to the paragraph above, and to the fullest extent permitted by law: our total liability to you, in aggregate for all claims arising out of or in connection with this Agreement or your use of the Software, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, misrepresentation or otherwise, shall not exceed £10. We shall not be liable for any indirect or consequential losses, including loss of data, loss of profits, loss of business, or loss of goodwill.
12. Updates and changes
We may release Software updates at our discretion. Updates are not guaranteed and may be discontinued at any time.
We may update this Agreement from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or to the Software. The current version is always published at myusb.cloud/eula, showing its version number and the date it was last updated, and the same version is available within the Software itself. Where a change materially affects your rights, we will give you reasonable notice. If you continue to use the Software after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Agreement. If you do not agree to a change, you should stop using the Software.
13. Termination
This licence is effective until terminated. It terminates automatically if you fail to comply with any term of this Agreement. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Software and delete all copies in your possession.
Sections 5, 6, 10 and 11 survive termination. Termination of this licence does not affect your ability to access your own files, which remain on your own USB drives.
14. Governing law and jurisdiction
This Agreement, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it, its subject matter or its formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims), is governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute or claim.
The Software is provided from the United Kingdom and is not directed at or offered to users in any other country. If you choose to use it from outside the United Kingdom you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with your own local law.
If you are a consumer, nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you are habitually resident, or of any right to bring proceedings in the courts of that country where the law gives you that right and it cannot be excluded by agreement.
15. General
Entire agreement: This Agreement, together with the myUSB.cloud Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy where the myusb.cloud service is used, constitutes the entire agreement relating to the Software. Severability: If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder remains in effect. Waiver: Failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver. Assignment: You may not assign your rights. We may assign ours at any time.
